Whale Beach
- Whale Beach is a 600-metre-long, east-facing beach located between two 40-metre-high headlands: Little Head and Careel Head.
- On its southern end, there is a 25-metre rock pool that is family-friendly, with shallow, sandy-bottomed waters.
The Big Swim
- Whale Beach is home to The Big Swim, New South Wales' longest continuously running ocean swim.
This is a true ocean swim covering a distance of 2.5 to 2.8 km, from Palm Beach to Whale Beach. The Big Swim has been held each January since 1974.
Careel House
- The beach is also location of the Careel House
, an unusual home designed by architect Alexander Stewart Jolly.
- Built on Careel Head overlooking the beach and completed in 1934, this single-storey bungalow was constructed from sandstone
blocks quarried on-site and is now heritage-listed.
- It is considered one of
Sydney's most bizarre homes.
